Utopia band12/19/2023 Also integral to the set up is mild-mannered Canadian manager Levon Frankland, who has the vision to put the band together. Their drummer, gruff Yorkshire man Griff Griffin, who learned his trade on the northern jazz circuit, is - as the only non-songwriting member of the ensemble - very much the shadow man, although he does endure a personal tragedy. This recurring conceit can amuse or annoy in equal measure, depending on one's attitude, or even one's patience As well Jasper has spent time in a Dutch psychiatric institution after being hidden away at a posh English private boarding school. Virtuoso Hendrixesque guitarist Jasper de Zoet is the ‘illegitimate’ scion of a wealthy Dutch family who, in a characteristic call-back to one of Mitchell’s previous novels, 2010’s The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet, suffers from schizophrenia/demonic possession (delete where applicable). Home counties folksinger Elf Holloway is going through a bad breakup from her garrulous Australian boyfriend Bruce – who also happens to be the other half of her performing duo. Oh, and he’s just been kicked out of his band. He also has ongoing issues with an alcoholic, abusive father. When we first meet Gravesend-bred blues bassist Dean Moss, he gets mugged, loses his bedsit and his job in a cafe, all within the space of a few hours. Not that things were always so rosy during their rapid rise along the rocky road to rock'n'roll stardom. After all, they are called Utopia Avenue. Utopia Avenue is a happy book about a happy band.

Two way traffic sign usa12/19/2023 Since our initial launch, we have expanded our business of sign purchase to incorporate safety supplies as well as other safety equipment for construction and roadway projects.Įven beyond our business of sign purchase, our goal continues to be to ensure the safe and secure operation in any construction, roadway, or commercial working situation. We could see that there was a need for quality highway road placards for purchase, so we launched our business to meet that growing need. That’s why we, at Worksafe Traffic Control Industries, launched our business in 1993. Two-way and four-way highway signs are particularly important for construction jobs, where worker’s safety is the primary consideration. Where Can I Buy Two-Way & Four-Way Highway Signs? You cannot afford to be negligent when it comes to the health and safety of your crew, staff, or even of the motorists who may happen upon your roadside situation. There is also the reality of consequences, in legal and safety concerns, if the rules of the road are not followed. If the motorist follows the rules, everything should be ok. The two-way traffic signs offer a warning, but also a series of unspoken directives regarding appropriate behavior on the road. Nobody wants to get a ticket for breaking the rules of the road. When the motorist sees the sign, the person not only understands the rules of driving on the right side of the road, but it’s also clear that they will face the consequences if he or she ignores the rules of the road. The rules of the road for a two-way street are different than a one-way street, so the driver should be aware that he or she should act according to the changed expectations for their driving behavior. The driver needs to specifically grasp any hazards that lie ahead, particularly if the flow has changed due to construction, special event, or other unique circumstance. How Do Two-Way Traffic Signs Help Keep Motorists Safe?Ī two-way sign helps to keep motorists safe by helping them to see and understand the change in movement. It is a way to raise awareness and to facilitate a better understanding of the current state of the road and conditions. The purpose of these placards in construction situations is to prevent confusion and avoid traffic accidents. For those motorists who are familiar with the “standard” or “normal” flow, it is even more important to clearly indicate the change in the conditions. The typical reason for the change in traffic-flow is related to construction projects, so it may seem like a logical change. It is also possible that certain roadways supported one-way movement in the past, or even on a regular basis, but the normal flow of vehicles has been altered. Two-way traffic often crosses roadways that are designed to be one-way roads, so it is essential to repeatedly remind the motorist of the limitations of each roadway. The sign also reminds the driver to stay to the right-hand side of the road to avoid oncoming vehicles on the two-way street ahead. It is a warning or cautionary sign that should allow the driver to prepare for the restrictions of a two-way driving situation. The purpose of the two-way sign is to make drivers aware that two-way movement is ahead. What is the Purpose of a Two-Way Traffic Sign? Here is a quick overview and discussion of the purpose of two-way signs, along with why they are so important for the safety and security of motorists and pedestrians. The message to students and eventually to motorists as they go out on the road is that they can avoid accidents if they follow the rules, read the traffic placards, and appropriately respond to roadway directions. The recognition of traffic signs, including the two-way sign, are part of the curriculum for students who are first learning how to drive a vehicle. These signs are messages, which we are all asked to learn and understand when we pursue the ability to drive, via standardized driver’s license tests. Traffic signs provide important information for drivers and pedestrians, with rules that are intended to keep everyone safe. Accidents could occur if the driver is not paying attention and starts driving in the wrong lane on a two-way roadway. This road sign is particularly important in situations where the driver is leaving a one-way street or roadway. Two-way traffic signs are important road signs that are used to indicate that a driver is entering a two-way roadway. Two-Way Traffic Signs & Their Meaning admin | October 29, 2020

When Usagi asks what it is, Makoto tells her it's a Sempai. The other Inner Senshi tell her it can only mean one thing. Meaning of solstice and equinox12/19/2023 In Mexico, the Mayan site Chichén Itzá has special equinox ties. English Heritage organizes the events, and if you aren't fond of big crowds, the equinoxes draw fewer people than the solstices typically. In England, the mysterious stone structure of Stonehenge has been a popular gathering place for solstices and equinoxes. Kukulcán Pyramid Mexico Hugo Borges/AFP/Getty Images That's why the sun never sets at all in the Arctic Circle during the time around the summer solstice. And the effect is more dramatic the farther you get from the equator. The sun sets more slowly during solstices when the Earth's tilt is most extreme. The reason? The setting sun hits the horizon at the steepest possible angle to Earth, EarthSky says. Just go outside around sunset or sunrise and notice the location of the sun on the horizon with respect to familiar landmarks."Īnother fun fact: The sun sets faster during the equinoxes than during solstices - and it's true for both hemispheres. The equinoxes are the only two times a year the sun rises due east and sets due west for everyone on the planet.ĮarthSky says the equinox is "a good day for finding east and west from your yard or other favorite site for watching the sky. If you're a sky watcher, the website EarthSky points out the equinoxes - spring or autumn - are a superb time to orient yourself. We got that truly equal day/night split a few days before the official spring equinox. This bending of light rays "causes the sun to appear above the horizon when the actual position of the sun is below the horizon." The day is a bit longer at higher latitudes than at the equator because it takes the sun longer to rise and set the closer you get to the poles. How does that happen when it's supposed to be 12 hours of day and 12 hours night?Īs the US National Weather Service explains, the "nearly" equal hours of day and night are because of the complex way a sunrise is measured and the refraction of sunlight in our atmosphere. It turns out you actually get a little more daylight than darkness on the equinox - and how much so depends where you are on the planet. That's why it gets increasingly warmer as we head toward the summer solstice in June. Going forward, the Northern Hemisphere will be more exposed to the sun than the Southern Hemisphere. And now here we are at the spring equinox! (That's why it stays dark for so long each day during the winter in places such as Scandinavia and Alaska.)īut since the winter solstice three months ago in December, you've probably noticed that our days have been getting longer in the Northern Hemisphere and the nights shorter. Those are the solstices, and they have the most extreme differences between day and night, especially near the poles. The effect is at its maximum in late June and late December. This discrepancy in sunlight is what triggers the seasons. That positions one hemisphere of the planet to get more sunlight than the other for half of the year's orbit around the sun. However, the axis tilts at 23.5 degrees, as NASA explains. It's called the axis, and this rotation is what gives us day and night. The Earth rotates along an imaginary line that runs from North Pole to South Pole. Best kindle settings for speed reading12/18/2023 The Amazon Kindle (2022) is nearly a perfect device for what it is, and some of its flaws are more down to Amazon than the device itself. Read our full Amazon Kindle Paperwhite (2021) review. It worked just as well as it did before when we took it out. Our testing of the Paperwhite 2021's waterproofing included a 20 minute bath in our sink. That said, it's gained one of the Oasis' once unique features: display warmth. The Paperwhite costs slightly more than half as much as the $250 Kindle Oasis, coming in at $139 ($10 more than in previous years). Faster charging doesn't appear to be on the table, but the microUSB port has been around for way too long, and is often fragile, so we're happy to see it go. It's a welcome change if only for the reversible port. And it's still got a great waterproofing (IPX8-rated) protection.Īfter the larger display, the big change this year is the move from microUSB charging to USB-C. While it's still a super-sharp 300-ppi display, it's now supported by an array of 17 LED backlights, for incredibly even lighting. The bezels are also smaller, so the device didn't have to grow too much to accommodate the growth from a 6-inch panel. It's got the same basic look as previous Kindles and Kindle Paperwhite models, a matte black shell and an e-ink screen, but this time it's larger, with a 6.8-inch panel. Small changes lead to great products staying great, and such is the case with the new Kindle Paperwhite (2021).

Zoom flash running12/18/2023 I was fairly mixed on this portion of the episode. Wells had another subplot of his own as the episode shed light on his connection to Zoom and what the villain is actually trying to accomplish. Wells had probably the funniest moment of the night, however, when he knocked on the door and demanded that the small child who answered turn over all their presents. For one thing, there was Caitlin and Jay doing their awkward “Will they or won’t they?” routine, all the time with Cisco in the background egging them on. Sure, Hamill hogged a lot of the spotlight in that regard, but there was ample humor to go around this week. With all this holiday drama afoot, I was glad to see that the writers didn’t neglect the humor. Luckily, it appears that the next episode will address the secret identity thing directly. I almost expected him to unmask as a means of convincing her to spare Mardon’s life (though that would result in two more villains knowing his secret). The whole ordeal also drew attention to how increasingly ridiculous it’s becoming that Barry hasn’t revealed his secret to her. Of course it was going to culminate with Barry talking her down from shooting the killer of her father. The episode handled her conflict with Mardon well enough, if a bit predictably. That didn’t give us much to go on, but I’m very eager to see Lonsdale integrated into the group next year. We even got a brief glimpse of Keiynan Lonsdale as Wally in the final minutes of the episode. She’s a great addition to the mix when her character is actually given something meaningful to do. Candice Patton also enjoyed some strong scenes this week. All the same, it was nice to see Joe’s arc given a happier resolution, with him acknowledging that whatever may come with Wally, Barry is his son in every sense that counts. Martin was predictably excellent this week as his character wrestled with the knowledge that he had never been there for his son. The renewed focus on the Wally West storyline was a welcome change of pace for the show. Giving new meaning to "the war on Christmas." I could see a new status quo developing for Season 3 wherein the fabric of time is as broken as the barrier between dimensions is right now. Barry already raced back through time again in last week’s Arrow episode. There’s a sense that the full ramifications of that act haven’t fully presented themselves, especially with Wells’ ominous warning about mucking with time travel. On a related note, it was interesting to see the characters reference Barry’s previous clash with Mardon and his first brush with time-travel. Then there was the chase scene as Barry pursued the floating Mardon across the city and even ran across the rotors of a helicopter. Trickster’s dreidel bombs were exactly what you expect from the villain - outlandishly stupid yet surprisingly effective. The conflict with Trickster and Weather Wizard led to a couple of neat action sequences. “Almost got ‘im,” as they say in Gotham City. This pairing worked because neither villain is really enough to challenge Barry on his own, but working together and exploiting his nobility, they had the Scarlet Speedster on the ropes. Liam McIntyre’s Mardon is comparatively straightforward, but he still brought a sense of gravitas and menace to the role that worked well during the climactic showdown. Hamill is always a hoot, essentially playing the villain like a live-action version of his Joker. In any case, Weather Wizard and Trickster made for an entertaining Dynamic Duo. It might have been fun to see the writers play up his shifty code of ethics and leave viewers questioning which side Cold was really serving. I would have liked Cold to remain a player in the conflict. I was just hoping for more from what will probably end up being his final appearance this season. It was nice to see the two characters interact in the West household and Cold reluctantly pay back the favor he owes Barry. Once again, it’s a shame that the show seems intent on rushing him out the door and sending him on his way to Legends of Tomorrow rather than truly exploring the Flash/Captain Cold rivalry to its fullest. The downside to this is that Cold barely factored into the episode. It was the closest we’ve gotten to a real “Flash vs. This time around, rather than pairing James Jesse with his long-lost son, we got a threeway team-up between the Trickster, Weather Wizard and Captain Cold. The previous trickster episode is the most purely fun episode this series has delivered, and that’s saying quite a lot. Easily the big appeal with this episode was seeing Mark Hamill return as the Trickster. |
